ATOS® - Advanced Airport System for CAT III B Operations
"So far we have done seven projects together. Our ambition is to deliver it to all aviation units - military, police, border patrol, medical. We have received more than a proof of concept, and are qui
Project summary
Key takeaways
- ATOS® (Airport Technologies Operational System) is a system for one of Poland's main airports, built with AP-TECH for CAT III B operations.
- It combines data from induction loops and transponders to show the real-time position of aircraft and airport vehicles.
- Air traffic controllers use a custom dashboard to manage traffic and react to unusual activity in near-zero visibility.
- The project contributed to AP-TECH's place in the Deloitte Technology Fast 50.
Order Group worked with AP-TECH, an aviation consulting and software development company, to increase operational efficiency at one of the main airports in Poland. Our goal was a system built for CAT III B operations, so the airport could keep operating in adverse weather conditions and thus increase air traffic and revenues.
Challenges
CAT III B operations require the system to track every aircraft and vehicle on the airfield in near-zero visibility, with no room for stale data, and to pass review by aviation authorities. It also had to combine data from many sources, such as induction loops and transponders, into one reliable picture.
Solutions
ATOS® - Airport Technologies Operational System, which we built with AP-TECH, integrates multiple data sources, such as induction loops and transponders, to monitor and manage traffic at the airport. The system provided real-time positioning of airplanes and airport vehicles and ensured that the runways were clear for safe landing.
Details
ATOS® combined software development and IoT integration, giving a full operational overview through a custom dashboard. Air traffic controllers could manage air traffic smoothly and respond proactively to potential threats or unusual activity.
Insights
In aviation systems, precision and reliability come first. Every release was tested against the requirements set by aviation authorities, in time windows that did not disrupt airport operations.
Results
The implementation of the ATOS® system, built for CAT III B operations, significantly increased the airport's operational capabilities and improved safety and operational efficiency in adverse weather.
