Onboarding is an integral part of the introduction of your employees. It seems easy to onboard a newcomer, but in practice, many companies do it ineffectively, which can be why people resign from a company as they do not feel taken care of during their first weeks of work.

Welcome aboard!

To understand the situation fully, you have to put yourself in the newcomer's shoes. Imagine you start your first day at work, and your feelings are mixed: you are curious and feel excited, but at the same time, you feel lost and stressed, as you probably do not know anyone in the company. You want somebody to take care of you, help you out and guide you through the onboarding process. That is why it is essential to accompany every new employee during the first days at work. Show you care about them and waited for them to join your team. How to do it?

First thing: be close and be ready to answer all the questions your employee has. Remember to provide all necessary equipment like computer, cell phone, access card, dedicated e-mail address. Additionally, each person should have access to all the local discs, documents, and programs needed to work right away.

It is also crucial for every newcomer to have their workplace - desk, chair, and screen. When people feel uncertain about new surroundings, it can be a comfort to have their space, to feel they belong to the place. Besides, do not make your employees wait for their contracts - these should be already prepared, printed out, and ready to sign. All paperwork should be completed on the first day that the person joins the company.

What is in it for me?

You still do not know why effective onboarding is that important for every company and how it can affect its future? Well, believe it or not, successful onboarding can decrease the rotation in the company. According to Gallup's research, only 12% of employees think their companies effectively introduce newcomers. Meanwhile, it should be a great moment to build relations, employee engagement and confirm promises given during the interview. It is a chance to build a positive employee experience from the very first day of work. When a newly hired person is taken care of and feels a part of the team does not decide to leave the company easily. Sounds like a win-win situation.
