Experience – How to Effectively Present It?
Information regarding professional experience should be presented transparently, taking into account the project context. Key aspects include:
- Basic data - company name, position, employment period (seems obvious, but sometimes "misses")
- Promotion path - each change of role or promotion shows the potential and possibilities of development.
- Project context - instead of general descriptions, it is better to provide details:
- Budget and project goal - what was the scale of the activity?
- Industry and challenges - what problems did you encounter, and how did you solve them?
- The importance of the project for the organization - was it a key project or perhaps organizational support? What can a Team Leader help you with?
Education - Is It Significant?
Although work experience is crucial in many cases, education can be an additional advantage. The most important aspects are:
- Completed studies - they are a positive value on your CV, regardless of whether this is your current direction of development.
- Postgraduate studies - in the field of project management are an important differentiator, confirming specialization and the desire to develop in a given field.
Courses and Certificates – Which Ones Are the Most Valuable?
In a dynamic work environment, acquiring new competencies is key, and appropriate certificates can significantly increase the attractiveness of your CV. It is worth investing in proven and recognizable courses that confirm specialist knowledge and skills.
Particularly noteworthy are the certificates in project management and agile methodologies, recommended by Mateusz, our Head of Delivery:
- PMP (Project Management Professional) - a globally recognized certificate from the Project Management Institute, confirming advanced competences in project management.
- IPMA 4-L-C - certification from IPMA Polska, covering different levels of advancement in project management.
- PSM (Professional Scrum Master) - a certificate from Scrum.org confirming skills in Scrum and its effective implementation in organizations.
- PMI-ACP (Aglie Certified Practitioner) - a certificate from the Project Management Institute, intended for people working in an Agile environment, covering various approaches and frameworks.
Although it is also worth developing “soft” competencies, they should be approached selectively. Training in stress management or other training of questionable substantive value may have no real impact on professional development. Focusing on industry and methodological certifications can bring greater benefits in building your career.
Elements That Add No Value to Your CV
Not all the information on your CV is important. Some may merely take up space and do not affect the candidate's rating. Things to avoid:
- A general description of the professional profile, which does not provide any specific information about skills and experience. It is worth focusing on your achievements and unique competencies.
- Emphasis on multi-project management, which is standard in Delivery positions and does not constitute a unique added value.
How to Make Your CV More Attractive?
We appreciate documents that are clear and contain specific information. To make your CV more effective, you should pay attention to:
- A transparent document structure that makes it easy to quickly find key information.
- A precise definition of your knowledge of foreign languages, preferably according to the A1-C2 classification, which gives us a clear picture of your digital skills.
- A section about interests, which may be useful during a job interview and constitute a starting point in a conversation with a recruiter.
- Attention to detail, including the elimination of spelling, grammatical, and typographical errors that may influence the perception of the candidate as inaccurate.
